Bringing Sewing & Needle Arts to Our Community

We are trained volunteers who provide clothing, textile and needle arts education to the public and are dedicated to reaching the community through our sewing expertise.  We offer hands-on classes throughout the year, plus a summer youth program, Camp Stitch-a-Lot.  CTAs volunteer at the Sewing and Stitchery Expo held in late February at the Fairgrounds in Puyallup, WA.

In the beginning... The Clothing and Textile Advisors (CTA) volunteer program was started in 1983 by Joanne Ross, Extension Agent in Pierce County (WSU) to provide the work-force to support the Sewing and Stitchery Expo (which became the largest in the U.S.A.)

The CTAs were/are the heart and soul of Sew Expo. They serve as hostesses during the show.  The idea was to provide volunteers with in-depth sewing and textile education that would be used to teach sewing and textile skills to others during the year.

Women in other counties became aware that having a CTA chapter in their county would serve many needs in their community.  However, it was up to women in the county to request and invite the volunteer program to be organized in their location.  That happened in Everett in 1996 by a handful of women with sewing skills. The Snohomish County Clothing and Textile Advisors chapter was formed.

As they say, the rest is history.

CTAs meet, teach, and sew year round. A variety of activities are scheduled throughout the year: Summer sewing camps for children 10-17 years old, adult sewing lessons, workshops/classes to enhance our skills, charity sewing and facilitating opportunities and requests as they come forth.

We have fun sharing our love of the needle arts and make great friends in the process.

Snohomish County Clothing and Textile Advisors is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
